Groundhog Day

The Baseball Season begins I close me eyes...then slowly open them to see if anything is different. Nope. It's déjà vu all over again. We begin our traveling and hotel hopping. My fettish for dark chocolate cranks up with a vengeance! Prayers are welcome!!
My ability to tell you what day of the week it is becomes greatly diminished---for you see, everyday is the same---Games, National Anthem, 7th inning stretch, God Bless America, late nights--everyday! Its like the movie Groundhog Day-- minus Bill Murray!
Quarters are treasured for the gypsy laundry days. My behind becomes numb the minute the car/ plane engine starts for one of our road trips. Outfits happen in a 5 day cycle because I live out of a suitcase!
I talk my husbands ear off. He nods a lot.

Blessings come in the form of fun ladies I get to call my friends, aka BASEBALLWAGS. I'm thankful that for some reason they hang out with the 'old lady' of the group! They are so precious!!

Repeatedly in the quiet moments, our hearts ache to hug our kids and Grandbabes! I'm thankful we have kids that are so amazing that we actually miss them! LOL! It could be worse!
It's a sweet feeling knowing your children are doing exactly what you raised them to do. They are living their lives with a loving spouse by their side...going after dreams...raising babes! I'm so proud of ALL of them!
The flip side for a perpetual mom like me is that I've worked myself out of a job! Yes, I knew these days would come! Just like I don't believe anyone can be totally prepared for that first child--I also know no one can be prepared when the watercolor ponies ride away!
My kids still like to have Storm and I come around! I AM THRILLED ABOUT THAT! Their sweet spouses even like us! And the sweet nuggets we call Grandbabes are so very precious to Papa & Mimi! We can't seem to ever get enough of their snuggles! Those little faces bring joy and a longing for more days with them. That is something this unique life of baseball doesn't often offer.

After 20+ years in this game, I know it well! It's a unique adventure for players and coaches. It has its humor and it’s hard times. It calls us away, yet gives us time home for the Holidays. It teaches endurance and brings appreciation of spontaneity. The highs & lows are extreme and remind us to stay centered 🙏!
When I long for the elusive 'normal' I'm reminded this is my normal. This is what we did first! My kids were raised in this game. They are thriving and finding life. My missing them is a gift from God -my mothers heart in action. God has all of us in His gentle arms! He is the only constant and comfort in this life!
For you see--'normal' is just a setting on your dryer! ⚾️❤️😜
PLAY BALL-- and Love Well!
.....by the way... what day is it?
